What is the School Readiness curriculum?

The School Readiness curriculum is a cycle of intentional teaching. It involves planning experiences to support children’s development.

The curriculum is aligned with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS). These standards include eight domains which support the development of the whole child; Cognition, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Language and Literacy, Creative Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Teachers gather information about how the children are progressing in their development and learning. Connecticut Documentation and Observation for Teaching System (CT DOTS) is a framework for this process. Teachers reflect and adjust curriculum as needed for each individual child’s needs.

The School Readiness Program is a collaboration with the Stamford Board of Education and The City of Stamford. The program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Partnership with Stamford Public Schools

Classes are set up in clusters established by Stamford primary-school districts to interact with the cluster’s associated elementary school.

The School Readiness Program utilizes Instructional Coordinators. These master teachers from Stamford Public Schools are on site at CLC to support curriculum, professional development and kindergarten transitions.
