What is the Child Development curriculum?
Our preschool program uses the Creative Curriculum in conjunction with the Connecticut Early Learning Development Standard (CT ELDS). These developmental standards are the foundation for supporting children from birth to five years old.
Our teachers intentionally plan ways for children to construct knowledge to make sense of their experiences. The curriculum content focuses on eight early learning and development domains:
- Cognition
- Social & Emotional Development
- Physical Health & Development
- Language & Literacy
- Creative Arts
- Mathematics
- Science
- Social Studies
The curriculum is play based, centered on children’s interest and is presented in a context that is hands on, inviting and stimulating. Children are encouraged to interact with the curriculum as teachers cater to children’s curiosity and development while playing a large role in facilitating children’s thinking and learning. Children are encouraged to be observant and attempt to solve problems and generate ideas.
Who are the educational partners for the Child Development Program?
Parents are encouraged to participate with their children in the program.
The Child Development Program partners with SoundWaters, Stamford Museum and Nature Center, The Ferguson Library, The Bruce Museum, Bartlett Arboretum Gardens, Family Centers and the Family Resource Centers. Classrooms are currently participating in many of these programs virtually due to COVID-19 safety precautions.
