Hispanic Heritage Month ran from September 15 through October 15, and our children sent it off with music, color, and a whole lot of dancing.
Over the course of the month, we made room to honor the cultures, traditions, and contributions of the Hispanic community. For many of our families, that meant seeing their own heritage reflected back at them in the place where their children learn every day.
A performance that filled the room
We welcomed BF Americas, a dance group known throughout Stamford for performances at the mall and at community events around the city. They arrived in traditional dress, and the energy they brought carried through the whole room. Our children watched, clapped along, and did not sit still for long.

Our children took the floor
Children came dressed in cultural outfits and carried flags representing their families’ heritage. They were proud of them, and they wanted everyone to see. The high point came at the end of the performance, when the dancers invited the children to join them. Watching them dance together was the kind of moment that is hard to plan and easy to remember.
Why we make room for this
A celebration like this one is not an extra on the calendar. It is part of how young children build a sense of who they are.
When a child sees their family’s music, clothing, and flag treated as something worth celebrating, they learn that their heritage belongs here. When they celebrate a classmate’s heritage alongside their own, they learn something just as valuable about curiosity and respect. Thank you to BF Americas, to our families, and to the teachers who brought the day together. We are proud of our children, and glad we get to help them learn about, embrace, and celebrate their cultural identities while appreciating the diversity of others.
